Cathy and Simon chose Allerton Castle for their wedding and they planned some unique elements to go fit alongside to make an original day which suited them perfectly! Read on…
The starting ingredient was the grand, elegant, gothic castle based in North Yorkshire, about half an hour from Leeds. This private country house and grounds have history all the way back to 1066 and provide an incredible, exclusive fairytale wedding venue for a couple of falls in love with it’s unique style.
The Great Hall and staircase leading up to the second level and to the bedroom for bridal preparation are a fine-art photographers dream; it’s so incredibly opulent and elegant.
The wedding day begins..
Cathy and her bridesmaids met us in the bridal suite where her incredible Pronovias wedding dress was waiting alongside the masks she was to wear during the day, which were the key element of their theme … a masked ball! Just fantastic!
As the girls prepared for the day by perfected their makeup and hair and donning an array of beautifully prepared wedding details, the guys were downstairs in the billiard room readying themselves for the day with a last minute meeting and waiting for friends and family to arrive.
The all important wedding ceremony
Back upstairs, the girls were nervously awaiting their grand entrance, with Cathy wearing her white mask, which was the first of two for the day, and being escorted down the aisle by her father.
The ceremony was a blur of tears, promises, ring exchanges and kisses … and suddenly they were married! The whole castle erupted with applause and the second surprise of the day turned up .. Jonathon Ansell of operatic G4 X Factor fame! What a special treat!
Man & wife!
Marriage completed, they and their guests relaxed in the luxury castle grounds while basking in the sunshine and nibbling an exceptional selection of tasty canapes, giving me the chance to exercise the documentary photography which I love, producing natural images of fun, hugs and laughter.
Group photographs can be a chore, but we had fun and laughed together as we worked out way through uncles and aunties, parents and friends. I also recommend doing at least a minimum amount of group photographs since they will be really important in time.
After the group photographs, I took Cathy and Simon for some intimate wedding portraits; they looked incredibly happy, with Allerton Castle making a perfect background to the photographs and they loved having a few moments just to themselves as I captured their spirit together.
Masks! G4! Fireworks! The treats continue!
And then it was time for the wedding breakfast so they and their guests made their way to Allerton Castle’s incredible dining room (which was decorated with some unique items and sporting a perfectly themed masked wedding cake) for some well earned relax time together.
Afterwards there was a heartfelt set of wedding speeches before the second event of the day – Johnathon Ansell and the rest of G4 made their first public appearance together for a number of years and serenaded the guests. Amazing!
If that wasn’t enough to enjoy, the guests all donned their masks and waited for the bride and groom to make their entrance down the staircase as man and wife, both wearing new masks. The couple entertained their guests with a beautify first dance before they and their friends & family danced the night away …
… before a final treat of an amazing wedding fireworks display! Cathy and Simon lay on the lawn and looked back at the unique day they had celebrated their marriage.
